I am From
I am from fishin’ poles and barefeet, from Crisco Shortening and cast iron skillets.
I am from the one of four little houses on the corner built by ship crews where Captains and thir crews stayed while “docked” and affectionately and appropriately called “The Captains’ Houses”.
I am from the bamboo and Cat Tails waving in the breeze of our river neighborhood.
I am from Sunday Nights watching The Wonderful World of Disney, making pizza and “industrial” bath to usher in the new school week. I am from “doing” more than thinking. Saving for a “rainy day” more than spending even when that rainy day finally came. I’m from getting through “today” with, hopefully something left over for “Tomorrow” from fish mongers and hammers and mortar and trowels of my great grandfather, father and grandfather.
I am from stubborn independence and oppressive perfectionism because if it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing right.
I am from There’s nothing you can’t do if you put your mind to it, and You’ll never amount to anything.
I am from Sunday Suppers, Amazing Grace, Jesus loves me, this little light of mine, and things that will never be told.
I'm from the green, fertile land of Maryland’s Eastern Shore on The Corsica River and the green, fertile hills of Scotland.
