Special Day
Wanted to get this into my blog, because days like this are just so rare now, post stroke.
Started out as our normal Sunday - groceries, farm stand. We are off to visit Colleen and Ray on Wednesday, so there is prep for that. But I have Tuesday slated out for shower, grooming, packing. good news is the packing should be easy - day schlepp and an overnight schlepp. Bruce is comp'd a room at the Casino, just seven miles from the Port. I was thinking an hour drive home, during rush hour and then unpacking, dinner, clean up for bed and I will be just exhausted. So off to the Casino.
This round tho, with no scooter, am planning to park myself and with just the two schlepps, getting to check in and the room without valet or porter. It is true - Nancy has created a monster - LOL. Without her support and confidence in all of us, there is no way I would even consider this.
I was talking to Julie this morning and mentioned I had way too many pokers in the fire. It seems like, now that I have time, all those post its on Control Central have to be taken care of immediately. Feels like my time off is limited, as it always has been these past three years.
Bruce is going to start his tool sorting next week. Friend Carl said don't throw anything out, so I messaged him to let him know we were starting. He will come to take out the AC and at that point, also go through the stuff we sort. This afternoon, Carl calls and wants to stop by - to introduce his new girlfriend and for Bruce to see his new Mazda Miata.
Now Godson Dan coming this week to help with City Bulk pickup. This is one poker that has to be dealt with. I only have a week. Carl and his friend offered to help. And then the girlfriend says "Carl, lets just help her get it all out." Not two hours later, van pulls up and can they have the stuff - LOL.
While this strange van - and it was brand new - was on the street; neighbor Gloria comes over to see what was going on. She gestures to new neighbor Justin, who comes over with his Akita - Posey and his daughter. Two neighbor couples walking their dogs stop. It was just precious. Gloria and one neighbor said "we just wanted to make sure you were safe." How special was that? We had a ball. I do feel badly that Bruce just chose to go to bed. I know he was tired and that was a lot of sensory input very late in the day. I also know most of the stuff was his - and that was probably hard.
No, the big, important stuff is still here. Two wood stoves, his musical equipment, the stereo equipment. But as you all advised, start with the small stuff and that is what I did. Carl wants the small wood stove and I do have a buyer for the musical equipment and possibly the stereo equipment. But I am not pushing that right now.
What I am thrilled about is the friendship and concern of the neighbors. One just never knows. Four of these people, while I know by face, I do not know by name. The one couple from up the street: he walks the dog every morning and always comes up to the door to say Good Morning to Bruce and his wife did the DNA testing on the Butternut trees. But I am going to try and pay more attention, write things down because we obviously live in a very special area. Debbie
