unconditional love turns rough

last night my wife came home with our grandson. he came running into the house and climbed up on me and snuggled with me telling me how much he loved me, so sweet,

a few minutes later he decided to climb up on the arm of the couch and jump on me. I was completely shocked.

and let out a yell. Grandma in the kitchen asked what was gaining on.

my grandson replied," I'm just jumping on grandpas belly.

I told him I love to play but I need a warning when he's going to jump like that he said ok.

then he said are you ready? and jumped on me again, fearing he might hurt me, I suggested we play with cars or trucks because I didn't want to get hurt.

again he said okay and we played with toys versus jumping on grandpa.

peace, love, joy and prayers,

jay

Sounds like you did a great job redirecting him to play something else and teaching him appropriate safe behavior.

He certainly does just love and adore you heaps, so he was happy to play cars if you rather do that. I am sure once he realized you did not like his jumping game, and it might hurt you, then he learned that was not the great idea he thought it might be.

You did not disappoint him because you continued showing unconditional love when you continued to play cars with him. There was no rejection there. Just a great teaching moment for the very normal impulsiveness of a three year old who did not think about hurting you.

You are a fabulous Grandpa! Great job!
