NO MALE READERS! - Females only!

All day long I've been feeling odd - physically, you know. Mentally I'm odd most of the time. :D

Today, both my arms are tingly (don't you love that word) and my joints are creaking and popping like I'm an old lady. My head seems like it weighs 100 lbs, and I've had to watch every step because it's like my balance is off....more than the usual walking down stairs, gripping the wall kind of thing.

I'm not sure what's wrong but, somethings just not right. My heart keeps racing but, I think it's because it's that dreaded time of the month, and in peri-menopause your hormones go crazy.

I just feel icky - but, I'm not sick.

I read this stupid article on the internet that claims most women stroke when they have their periods. I had mine when I stroked. So now I'm worried ... Is my body preparing for another? Is the article true or just some more BS that you find when you research stroke on the net?

Opinions Ladies?

Vicki,

My personal/professional opinion is this....

1) You are odd( as are most of us in some way)

2) I didn't have my period when I stroked. Geez I would have become anemic if I was, all that loss of blood...

3) You can't believe everything you read on the internet. Some of it is the equivalent of The National Enquirer....

4) Can you positively say without a doubt, you aren't coming down with the flu?????

Aren't you glad you asked for opinions and I replied?

i actually like reading The National Enquirer when i'm standing in line at the supermarket. sometimes The Enquirer makes more sense than the New York Post.

i also didn't have my period when i stroked. i think that theory that you read on the internet was authored by the (male) descendent of the man who used the Latin word for uterus (hyster) to describe uppity women.

in my professional/personal opinion, you are probably having significant perimenopausal symptoms. Pam's thought of you having the flu is also a viable option.

of course, we're all odd. who would want to be normal.....it's so BORRRRING!

It could be hormonal, but then I would call the doctor and tell him about your headache and being off balance and just not feeling quite "right" you are describing the "exact" symptoms I had with stroke.. did not have the excruating headache most people tell about. Felt off balance and not quite "right" .....more like flu or sinus infection symptoms..

CALL THE DOCTOR IMHO Bonnie

I don't want to worry you, but I stroked during my period, and every month I do have that in the back of my mind. I would also speak to a doctor, better be safe than sorry.

i agree with Bonnie and Vix-call your primary care doctor AND your neurologist. also call your gyn. there are blood tests that can help determine whether or not you are perimenopausal. of course, they can all be negative, and you can still be perimenopausal.

THIS IS OF NO HELP WHAT SO EVER, BUT I STROKED IN 12-03, AND I CAN *** NOT***** REMEMBER IF I WAS HAVING THE "CURSE' OR NOT!!!!!! LORD I HOPE NOT. IT WAS EMBARRASSING ENOUGH TO WAKE UP THREE WEEKS OR SO LATER ALL NUDE AND HOOKED UP TO MACHINES OUT OF EVERY KNOWN BODILY ORIFACE!!!!!!

DON'T BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU READ. BESIDES, WERE ALL THE MALE SURVIVORS HAVING PERIODS? SOUNDS LIKE ANOTHER LAME EXCUSE TO BLAME WOMEN'S HORMONAL SWINGS FOR EVERYTHING FROM BAD MOODS( NORMALLY INDUCED BY THE MALE SPECIES, LOL) TO JUSTIFIABLE HOMICIDE.

HOGWASH, IT JUST HAPPENED.

I don't want to freak you out, but I was also on my period when I stroked, and I am now as I type. I take blood thinners which make me go anemic every month and feel like I am hemmorging(sp?) to death.

I have never heard about menstruation being linked to stroke though.

Viv,

i think this is something we should have a poll on, okay maybe not, i did not have my period. i know when i am PMSing or suffering from aka mad cow disease, i got very bloopy (lightheaded, off balance, your basic punkiness) and always have, but of course now i attribute it to another stroke. i agree with the other ladies that you should check with your doctor, simply to ease your fears and give you some peace of mind.. i'd offer a piece of mine, but i don't have much to spare these days and the little bit i have left gets cluttered up quickly.
