Mary,

We 'do curry' over here. It's not as popular as other spices but even I have a tin of curry in my cupboard and I don't even cook very often. I've made curry chicken even, but it can't compare with Southern Fried Chicken for melt in our mouth goodness. Do you guys have KFC over there?

mo they don't really have indian restaurants-- we'll have to tell jean that curyy is a type of cooking- not a spice

Good on you. I am glad you had a good time. I wasnt aware Americans didnt do curry.

Peter,

We have two Indian restaurants here in my town (and other places have them, too.) They are run by immigrants from India and they serve authentic Indian food. Check your dictionary, curry IS a spice and it's used in a lot of Indian dishes thus using the word 'curry' to describe either a spice (noun) or a favored dish (adjective) is proper....just as as you can say "cinnamon buns" or "cinnamon" the spice. By the way, here in the states the term 'cinnamon buns' can also be used to describe something distinctly non-food....a woman's derriere. :D

i live in NYC (brooklyn.) there are tons of Indian restaurants in both Manhatten and Brooklyn which are as authentic as the ones in England because they are run by Indian immigrants. in fact, east sixth street and now lexington avenue from 20th to 30th street in Manhattan are both called 'Little India.' Indian restaurants have even reached the outer boros and upstate NY.

i love Indian food, though vindaloo is usually too fiery for me unless i eat it with a lot of rice. i remember having one dish of chicken vindaloo in washington, DC, at an Indian restaurant, that was too hot for me to eat.

i think i will go for Indian food tonight, although i'll pass on the beers. i take too much medication to make that a good choice for me, and my husband is sober in Alcoholics Anonymous for nine years.

i have eaten in Indian restaurants on London as well as NYC, and find no difference, except that the restaurants in NY are in a city that i love more.
