Back in Rehab Again

Much to report. Well I now have a wrinkle free right arm and right leg! I had botox in my right arm and leg yesterday. My foot turns down in which this seeks to correct. Makes standing a challenge. The right arm is tight to my body, the hand in a fist. I wear a brace most of the day to open my hand and this should help. Also, basic movement is there but can't overcome the strong tone. Next Monday I start intensive physio for around 4 weeks, means staying Monday to Friday though. It's an old hospital, I saw the ward I'll stay on. Bit grim but trying to look at the bigger picture.

Physio was this morning and went really well. I was more upright than usual, both hands raised from the bed in front of me so my legs had to support me. For a minute or 2 I stood like that, alone. Balance was definitely better and my legs are stronger. Then she tried putting the bed on my left, not in front. Previously with help of one person I wasn't able to stand with the bed there. My physio went to help but from high up I stood alone! Then to her obvious delight took my hand from the bed and stood alone on just my legs, no hand on bed to steady me. She was so pleased as that was completely unprompted. Best part came next though. While standing, she helped me take a step with my weaker right leg, and the left I stepped myself. Both times I regained my balance. Very pleased with how it went. My first steps in 18 months! Gosh that felt good. If I can achieve this on under a year of once a week physio just think what will be possible on an hour or two a day! Drive home I felt happy, till I remembered that Dad can't share in my triumphs (brain damage was so enormous doctors initially told my husband if I survived, which was highly doubtful, I'd never be more than a vegetable) as he sadly died 6 months before I stroked. But I'll bet he does still see, I well remember cringing at school parent's evenings when he told teachers how clever I was. Rather sweet really he was so proud!

Is that indoor/outdoor electric wheelchair a distant memory? Heard from them, they will liase with rehab to give me my long awaited new wheelchair there in December. Getting it home will be entertaining! Getting it will be great though.

I guess I should get to bed after my exciting day.
