Getting a new doctor

Due to circumstances, not of my doing, it is necessary for me to go to a new doctor. This is extremely stressful for me; I hate change. Needless to say, my life these past few years have been full of change.

In a nutshell, my doctor of 14-1/2 years had left the area and apparently the state. This is nothing new with him. It seems to be a flaw he has- at least to my way of feeling. Hating change, I set very deep roots and it takes dynamite (in this case a meaningful stroke) to unearth them.

So, the practice had been taken over by a new group and I picked a Dr. I wished to see and made the appointment. At least my records were right there etc. When I went though and was given a Physicians Assistant, I was told Dr. K wasn

Oh Phyllis,

Sorry to hear about your doc problems. I can totally understand where you are coming from - change is difficult, at best, to deal with. My current scripts have 2 more refills, so I have some leeway on the doc visit. For me, my Bro has suggested his doc. I've always had a male doc but will give her a try. Kiddo on the other hand is thrilled to have a female PCP. The one consolation I have is that she is very thorough and seems to really care about her patients (according to my Bro). If I don't like her, I do have the option of 3 other (male) docs within the practice to choose from. Best of luck with the new doc as well as getting your meds.

I have been using female doctors for years. I like to think they have more empathy. I suspect this is sometime true, sometimes not. The woman I have now is great. I have since discovered that I actually know several other woman who go to her.

I found her by researching through a local hospital which I generally use. They have a referral program which includes bios of all doctors. They are computerized such that all doctors associated to them can electronically access text records, mammograms, MRIs etc. It is very helpful. I like that everyone in the system is connected both electronically and non-electronically.

Gosh, Phyllis, that sounds awful. I heard recently that my GP is retiring so I will have to make a change. However, this is a small community and I will stay with the same group of doctors. But it will take some time getting used to a new person. Pete is my friend besides my doctor.

I worked for a female Dr.. she was OB/GYN and actually in that field many preferred seeing her to the male Dr in our group. I had a female Internist that I really liked, but she moved out of the area. Being in the Medical Field I knew some of the Dr's ... so it made my choice much easier.

I also don't mind seeing Physician Assistant's .. actually many times they take more time and listen more closely and they are working Under an MD.

John goes to the VA, he sees an ARNP ( A registered nurse practioner) for his check ups.. last visit we mentioned a spot on his incision we were concerned about, we didn't even hear her call (she may have e mailed him) during the check-up the head of dermatology was in the examining room looking at the spot..

If you could as the "new" Dr's office if they have a "triage nurse" or if you could speak to the Dr's nurse.. you may be able to explain the situation and get refill on your current meds to hold you until you can get in.. Sometimes getting past the front desk can be a bit tricky.. but you can ASK..

phyllis, sorry to hear about the dr problem. my pcp is RNP under a MD, she really listens and her bubby is paralized from a work injury, so she understands how i feel. i like female drs better after working with them and how they treat their patients. but we all have our preferences, i do hope you get your situation resolved with the dr and meds. good luck phyllis. its an aggravating thing to deal with.

SHORTLY AFTER I MOVED TO WHERE I LIVE NOW A FRIEND SUGGESTED I USE HER FEMALE GYNECOLOGIST RATHER THAN TRAVEL 25 MILES BACK TO THE SHORE FOR MY ANNUAL VISIT. I WAS SOMEWHAT RELUCTANT BUT FIGURED WHAT THE HECK. IN THE MIDDLE OF THE EXAM SHE NONCHALANTLY ASKED "DOES CANCER RUN IN YOUR FAMILY?"

I PASSED OUT COLD ON THE TABLE. WHEN I CAME TO SHE ASKED WHAT'S YOUR PROBLEM? WHAT WAS THAT ABOUT? I RESPONDED SEE THAT DEGREE ON THE WALL LADY... YOU'RE OBVIOUSLY NOT TOO BRIGHT. SO I'LL GIVE YOU A FEW SECONDS TO PROCESS THIS. THINK... YOU'RE EXAMINING ME AND WHAT DID YOU ASK ME? DID YOU HONESTLY THINK THAT MIGHT NOT HAVE SOME ALARMING IMPACT ON ME?

A WEEK LATER I WENT BACK TO MY REGULAR DOC. I NEEDED A D&C (DUSTING &CLEANING :silly: )

HER OFFICE IS CLOSE TO MY HOUSE AND I NOTICED A FEW WEEKS AGO IT'S NOT THERE ANY MORE.

GOOD GIRL PHYL BE PICKY THEY'RE NOT ALL THE SAME
