This and that, ups and downs

I have trouble coming up with an appropriate title for my blogs. Today I have a mixture of items I want to talk about.

It has been snowing all day. We haven't had this kind of weather in a long time. We are supposed to get up to maybe 6 inches. The wind is not blowing so the snow is staying put.

I got news the other day that my brother, who is 5 years older than me, has prostate cancer and two hernias. The doctors won't perform surgery for the hernias and he won't be getting chemo for the cancer because he wouldn't survive either. He will receive some kind of hormone shot that will ease his prostate problem. I have been expecting this to happen for awhile. I just hope he doesn't suffer too long. He lives in Utah so I won't be able to see him.

I also got word of a cousin who passed away two weeks ago. He was 80 years old. He had lived in the same town for 80 years. He served in the Navy from 1945-1949, which was the only time he was away from Ft. Morgan, CO. He had suffered a stroke in 1998 and his wife, a nurse, was his caregiver until the end.

On an up note, there is a story in the local paper today about the dog that was named the Best of Breed at the AKC Eukanuba National Championship All Breed Invitational Dog Show in Long Beach, CA over the weekend. This dog is owned by a lady who was my youngest daughter's 4-H leader in the early 80's. It was a dog obedience club and Stephanie was quite successful with her dog, Sugar, an American Eskimo Dog. Maxine, the dog owner, lives in Alliance, NE and the dog is a Miniature Manchester named Ruby. Ruby will be at the Westminister Dog Show in February, and I won't be surprised if she wins it all there. She is a beautiful little dog.

Now it is time to go watch Jeopardy, one of the few shows I enjoy watching. Paul and I watch every day. I probably won't blog again before Christmas so I want to wish everyone Merry Christmas, Happy Hannakuh, and Happy New Year!

Vi,

Merry Christmas to you as well dear - hope your holidays are blessed. Your brother will be in my thoughts and prayers that he does not suffer for too long. Your cousin is now at peace, bless him for the battle he fought.

I love to watch the dog shows. I'll be on the lookout for the darling who won.
