it is a meditation

:Hi: well, summer is almost offically over. here on cape cod that means a flood of holiday makers hitting the road to celebrate labor day. :yikes: both bridges have up to 8 miles of traffic back up and it is only thursday. barry and i have already implemented our standard method of surviving.....lay in supplies and stay off the roads! :Munch: :bookread: soon the traffic will l thin and my favorite month of october will arrive. i love the cooler weather and the fall colors along 6A are lovely....not to mention most vacationers are gone.

my tomotaoe harvest continues and i have been sharing with my neighbors. i have started planting mums along the border of our front lawn patch of land. planting and weeding is like a meditation....as i plant my focus is in the moment,on what i am doing and my mind clears. i can only do a bit at a time and planting one handed can be challenging but i love the time i spend with the plants. sasha, my furry companion, sits by and soaks up the sun and for a few minutes i find all is right with the world.

i met my new cardiologist yesterday and feel we will get on just fine....i have to do all the tests to make sure my ticker is ticking as it should......and so far my new parts appear to be working well. when i asked about having to replace my current valve replacement my doc said they can last between 7 to 10 years. yipee! i can put that out of my mind for a bit. i also followed up this week with my primary doc and we got all the paperwork started for all those yearly exams that are required.

i am searching in my local area for a painting class. i have always wanted to give it a try. i have taken drawing and sculpture (none of which i do well ...but have given me joy) : :artist: found an easel at a yard sale and just got inspired......will see were this leads.

hubby will be leaving in 9 days for a 2 week trip in england. my sister will visit for 6 days and then i will hang out on my own. like donna, i have been training for his time away.....not only myself, but the furry children, who can be very demanding. that is about it in my neck of the world. having some good days...some not so good days and doing the best i can :D cheers! kathy

I always wanted to see fall colors in boston, so can you please tell me when is the good time for that. & we will visit you and see the fall colrs if it's okay with you. your gardening sounds lovely. I want to do it, but I am afraid that maybe I won't like it, so want to start something small. I am sure you wil do great while Berry is out.

Hi, it sounds like you are doing really well. :) I'm glad someone enjoys gardening, myself I can hardly tell a weed from a flower. But that's okay, I do the best I can and my gardens seems to reseed themselves, thank god.

I grew up in quebec (canada) the ottawa valley with the gatineau mountains (BIG Hills really) and the fall was always my most favorite time of year...... ahhh all those maple trees turning into glorious color.. the sweet smell the cooler weather...ummm :) Each leaf is as colourful as a flower. Michigan is nice too, but not the same, not as colourful. lol.

I think you'll do well during Barry's vacation by yourself. Your son is close by as well isn't he?

Kathy,

home-grown tomatoes - yummmmmmm Wish I was close by as your neighbors. My gardening skills are atrocious to put it mildly - even before stroke. Bless you.

I'm sure all will be fine while Barry is gone. Granted, I've not spend 2 weeks home alone but I've got faith that all will go ok - your furry ones will probably watch over you. I'm sure your son will check on you as well.

Smart idea you and Barry have to lay low until the vacationers are cleared out and you have peace, quiet, and less traveled roads.

Good report from the cardiologist on your "valve job". Hope all continues to go well.

Great post, Kathy. Sounds like you have everything in order - both with your garden and your doctors. Great news. I have a round a dr. appts starting in late Sept. Jerry planted tomatos this year, also, but they burned up from our AZ summer sun after just a few good ones. We get homegrown ones when we visit California. A few years ago Jer and I took a round trip specifically for the fall follage, mainly concentrated on New Hampshire and Maine and we really lucked out with our timing. I'm from Michigan but I had never seen the array of colors we saw in NH.

Good Luck with Barry gone - sometimes I think thats a good thing - makes both of you appreciate the other more. I'm sure you will do fine; I can tell from your posts that you are a woman who will make it work, whatever it is. Just don't fall!! I envy your planting. too hard for me to get down to do any work - actually it's the getting Up that's hard LOL

Take care and enjoy the fall on the Cape - Leah

Kathy, it all sounds good, the gardening and soaking up the sun. I agree with Leah, you will be fine while Barry is away - lonesome but fine! I used to be okay with Ray away, now when he is not with me I am worried!

I've seen a lot of movies set at Cape Cod and think I'd like to go there one day. There are lots of places I would like to go "one day" come to think of it...lol.
