Guest Posted March 6, 2009 Wes, You sold (read "traded") yourself short :busted: ...only a 12-pack, and then only maybe? Kidding. :yukyukyuk: Very little tastes like it used to for me either, for whatever consolation that might provide. Enjoy your weekend! Pam Quote Link to comment
harriet rankin Posted March 6, 2009 I remember Daddy and Bart both saying that food didn't taste good for a couple years after having heart attacks. Dad didn't even like coffee much for a long time, and you know how he was with his coffee. Just wondering... Does food tasting bad make it easier to lose weight? Hopefully it will get better soon. American Idol? YUK! Paula and I just got back from Mamma Mia.... now that was one great play! Still smiling inside. Enjoy the weekend! Quote Link to comment
naomih Posted March 6, 2009 I don't think food taste good for sometime regardless of what the medical problem is. After my heart attack, it was a long time before it had any kind of taste again, after surgery, it was the same thing. I wonder if it has to do with all the medication and it is more the medicine that kill the appetite. Your Dad use to make me feel bad because I felt like it was my cooking until I saw his taste buds weren't the same a the restaurants. Paula was good at cooking things he liked but he really didn't eat that much there either! Medicine does alter the taste buds...gotta be! I hope you have a great four days off! Love you Mom Quote Link to comment
merichsen Posted March 6, 2009 P.F. Chang's is made much more palatable when you're enjoying it across the table from a 14 year old who has an attitude and a puss on because we could have stayed home and ordered the much better and real Chinese delivery food. If not the food I was tempted to see if he enjoyed the checked being stuffed down his throat, but he knows I'd never make a scene. Typical adolescent I can destroy your dinner out power struggle. With a 14 and 16 year old narrowing it to stroke induced can be a tough distinction, but I'm inclined to agree with mom. Two reasons- One I've noticed as I've been through various medications, some will cause almost a metallic taste in my mouth, other suppress my appetite. I think it has to do with how they effect and mix with your peptic acids. Secondly because she seems like a nice supportive lady and you were once 14. Quote Link to comment
Mema Posted March 6, 2009 The answer is all of the above. I did lose about 35# while I was in the SNF immediately post stroke because the food was unappetizing (imagine that), and since I have been home, I gained some back. But food just doesn't taste the same, plus I have no appetite anymore. And Mamma Mia is a great movie. I watched it on dvd. Vi Quote Link to comment

paula block Posted March 8, 2009 I drive 3 1/2 hours to jen's to have pf changs. Even if I had no taste buds., I would still eat at pf changs, just because I can remember that I like pf changs. I love the lettuce wraps, the dumplings, the beef..the wine, the desert. I also remember Dad saying "I don't like food, but it makes a turd" Just something to hold on to. Even if food doesn't taste the same, it still makes a turd. Quote Link to comment
